CODING STARS
Future Stars has partnered with the Larry Fitzgerald Foundation to providing coding programming in three locations through the Phoenix Metropolitan community.
Software programming (coding) is said to be a foreign language that should be taught in every school for all students. Coding is a method of communicating with a computer. It is using a language that a computer understands to give a computer instruction in order to perform specific functions. Coding allows us to create things such as computer software, websites, apps and video games. Coding requires logical thinking and teaches students how to tackle complex problems by breaking them down into smaller problems which are easier to manage and solve. Even if children never become a professional computer programmer or software engineer, they will benefit from learning to think this way. Coding also helps teach digital literacy; in the modern world, being able to understand and engage with technology isn’t just good to have — it’s a necessity for navigating an increasingly digitized society. Children need to know technology; in other words, they need to be digitally literate.
Future Stars, Inc has been providing STEM programming over the last nine years that incorporates coding into our workshops. The instructors work with the student each day on learning the basic of coding, how to program a robot or Arduino board, etc and/or developing an app/website. The program is split into four eight-week sections, allowing for four mini projects to keep the students engaged in their learning and coding journey.
The three locations are South Pointe Elementary School, Maryvale Community Center and Vernell Coleman Recreation Center. The program schedule would be Monday – Friday with the possible of only meeting four days of a week depending on the school and community center schedules. The workshop will be each day for 60 – 90 mins with approximately 10 – 15 students in the workshop.
